Good evening residents, and thank you for attending this update on the canal restoration project.
My name is Helen Ward, and I lead the volunteer programme for the waterways trust.
First of all, work on the northern stretch finished six months ahead of schedule.
The southern stretch, however, has been delayed by the discovery of a Roman wall.
We had planned to reopen the towpath in June, but it will now be September.
The project was costed at one point two million pounds, although final costs will be lower.
Right, moving on to volunteering, we need people for litter picks and wildlife surveys.
Training days used to be held on Sundays, but they now take place on Saturday mornings.
Volunteers should meet at the lock keepers cottage, which is the white building by the bridge.
Please wear strong boots, as the banks remain muddy even in dry weather.
One last thing, the public consultation closes at the end of this month, not next month.
Thank you for your support, and please sign the register if you can help.
