Good evening everyone, and welcome to this talk on saving energy at home, organised by the residents association.
My name is Doctor Alan Reeves, and I advise the council on energy policy.
First of all, heating accounts for around half of the energy used in a typical British home.
Turning your thermostat down by one degree can cut your heating bill by about ten percent.
Many people think the ideal room temperature is twenty two degrees, but eighteen is perfectly comfortable.
Right, moving on to lighting, modern bulbs use a fraction of the electricity of older ones.
Leaving appliances on standby costs the average household roughly eighty pounds every single year.
Free home energy checks used to be for pensioners only, but they are now open to everyone.
To book a check, ring the number in your pack, not the one on the website.
One last thing, our next workshop covers solar panels and takes place on the third of November.
Thank you for coming, and please take an information sheet as you leave the hall.
